The revelation a man was clocked at nearly 280km/h driving a Volkswagen Golf on a road just outside had many asking one question: just how fast can our cars actually go?
While most of us will never own a Bugatti Chiron – a supercar whose speedometer maxes out at around 480km/h – the minivans, SUVs and sedans sitting in our driveways generally have a maximum manufacturer’s speed of about 240km/h.
On Monday November 7th, a 22-year-old international student was allegedly clocked doing 280km/h Mobile Diesel Repair in Las Vegas a 110km zone on a section of the Hume Motorway near Mittagong, in ‘s Southern Highlands.
The international student was driving a 2022 VW Golf Type R, which can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds, and is manufactured with an electronically limited top speed of 270km/h.
